Childcare Centre Opens for Business.
Exactly a month after children first tasted the new state-of-the-art outdoor-play area Kathleen Millikan Centre at the December official opening, their first day at the Centre finally arrived this week (Monday 13 January 2014).
The multi-purpose Centre, which was seven years in the making, includes a kindergarten, long day care, before and afterschool care and maternal and child health facilities – catering for ages from birth through to 12 years.
There is space for 54 children each day, with twice as many long day care places as the original Centre, and there are still vacancies for families to enrol their children.
Mayor Cr John Northcott said the Centre would provide light-filled play areas for children as well as modern facilities for in-house and visiting healthcare professionals. The Centre is fitted out with new modern furniture, TVs, games, toys and every necessity that the new centre requires.
The $1.8 million project included 1.1million of State Government funding and $700,000 from Glenelg Shire Council. The Casterton Child Care Action Group also raised $84,000 towards the centre, well above the group’s target of $75,000.
Enrolments and enquiries can be made by dropping into the Centre (1-7 Jackson St, Casterton), downloading an enrolment form from the Glenelg Shire Council website (www.glenelg.vic.gov.au), or contacting Children’s Services on 5522 2211or Children Services Manager Jodie Maybery on 0438 295 244.
