A branch agency of the National Bank first opened in Casterton, November 1872 using an existing shop as premises. The National Bank established a permanent presence in Casterton when in 1878 the lower floor of the present building was erected. By mid 1880s a second storey had been added by local contractors to serve as a manager’s residence.
